Brian, Fuel filters on these cars are connected to the fuel lines using what is called banjo bolts and ring ends. Because these filters live underneath the car they are exposed to the elements and road salt, ect., also depending on the area you live (I'm in the Northeast)and the age of the car they can get very rusty. When I do a fuel filter in our shop depending on the condition of these bolts & ring ends sometimes I replace them when doing the filter. Replacement of the ring ends into the plastic fuel lines is a fairly easy job for an Indy who has done this before. You may also have to replace the banjo bolts and install new seals. The good news is that once this has been corrected the new ring ends & banjo bolts will last a good long time. Good luck and let me know if I can be of further help.
