dash repairs and protectants

My dash (that I replaced six or so years ago with a good used one) has finally shown a crack. The little crack (or hole really) is at the bottom-right side of the glove compartment. There was always a bit of a kink in the dash there, so I was expecting it would eventually crack.
Anyway, my first question was, what can I put in there to strenghten up that area? I've searched the BBS and found suggestions from epoxy, silicone, to structural urethane. I just want to put something into that hole to strenghten up things so it doesn't break apart much more.
The second question is what can we use to protect the dash? So far when it is especially warm/sunny I use a reflector in the window. Is there anything that can also be applied to the dash. Searches of the BBS so far have turned up Meguiars' vinyl protectant. I've heard many times to avoid Armor All as it will actually make the dash shiny and more prone to heat up and crack.
thanks in advance!
