I just did my '92 and my '87 with R134a. Both cool quite well after replacing all of the orings ($10), the reciever/dryer ($15), and the expansion valve ($25). The job just isn't that hard either. Just get used to the idea of removing the passenger headlight, corner light, and the bumper for access and things go much smoother.

I used a borrowed vacuum pump to vacuum them myself and filled them using R134a conversion kits readily available at my local parts stores. I used a decent looking replacement compressor on the '87 that I picked up at my local u-pull it junkyard for $40. If you take the whole mounting bracket with it from the junkyard you save removing and refitting four nuts and bolts. Don't grab a compressor looks like it might've sprung a leak, my original one sprung at the belt driven end and left some oil in that area that's tell tale.

The whole job on my '92 cost about $100 with refrigerant, the '87 cost the extra $40 for the used compressor.
