The 40 part of the 10-40 oil just means it's a little bit thicker than 10-30. Considering the 95+ temperatures we are experiencing that would not be an issue.
A temperature issue with the engine is most likely a coolant or thermastat
problem. Make sure you have a 50/50 solution of water & antifreeze.
When you say burning up the oil, do you mean smoking out the tail pipe?
Blue smoke is oil, white smoke is a headgasket problem. Check your engine oil to see if it is milky.
Did I meet you at pick n pull a couple months ago?
