I've bought 3 yards of material before to do headliners, but that did not include the sunroof panel, and after doing the main board and the C-pillar panels, there is not enough left over to do the sunroof....so maybe that's why they went with 4 yards. The cut-out for the sunroof hole has to be trimmed larger than the hole and tucked and glued and stapled to the back of the board, so the cut-out will be way too small to do the sunroof.
I can't comment on the stock type headliner material(foam backed), because I've found that "felt" makes a good alternative to the OEM type stuff(and is available in alot of different colors), and it's much cheaper < $11 for three yards in the US. When unfolded, it's 72" across, which just gives you enough to span side to side, fold over the back, glue and staple...and have a few inches to spare on each side.
