HI,
I recall something about a white SPG from around that time period. The car was a european model 900 Aero that was redesignated and imported as a grey market car for executive use. Recall that the US 900's from that year had passive restraints - robo-belts. If you don't have those...that's a clear tip-off.
This was not uncommon and there are several overseas model Saabs that were brought over for testing benefits and personal executive use.
I personally saw some 900CD vehicles in the US (long wheelbase sedan) as well as other rarities in terms of equipment.
The northeast regional service manager often drove odd vehicles. A 900 with the direct ignition, late model 5-door turbos, etc.
As you stated, aside from the early bathc of first year pearl SPGS, The typical SPG was black, grey, red, or the Beryl green.
In other countries, the 900 Aero (SPG) was available in those colors plus a different gray, silver, yellow, ruby red, dark blue, dark green ... and yes, white.
The car would most likely have had some documentation to pass the then current EPA and DOT requirements. Also, the speedo would have been changed to read MPH if it came from a metric country - as most are.
I know of a few white SPG that were imported by military personnel.
In any case, enjoy the car! Every Saab 900 is special. An imported Aero would be somewhat special - but don't think that it's the "only one in the world" .. LOL...
