I searched previous posts because the fins on my alternator are rubbing on the housing and making noise, and my battery usually seems kind of weak. I'm thinking I want to fix myself. Based on what I read here I think I want to replace the brushes in the regulator, bushings that mount the alternator, and ground wire, because I might as well while I'm in there. If the commutator looks o.k. I won't mess with anything else. Here are my questions, just in case anyone has the time and inclination to weigh in:
1) Do I just find replacement ground wire and splice on wire ends or is there one available that's made for it?
2) Where do I buy parts for the regulator and the bushings? Are they dealer parts? Online?
3) One of the posts I read indicated quite a bit of difficulty gettting the alternator out - is there a guide online anyplace? Or a book that's recomended?
I appreciate this board like you wouldn't believe. Its so helpful. Thanks to everyone who contributes to it!
Scott
