Without drop testing entire circuit, you solution (reground) is most common fix for symptoms you describe... on 4dr. What model do you have?
If you have a 4dr, how did you reground? Purpose of the fix is to correct underdesigned grounding on driver side rear circuit board: no problem w/wiring itself. Passenger side fix not required 99% of the time. Did you drill hole in this board and reground through the board?

I had to do this recently, had multiple contributing problems: short under dash (from CD player being stolen/wiring ripped out of harness), bad ground behind instrument cluster, and this rear circuit board. For me took rather meticulous drop testing w/aid of Bentley wiring diagrams.
