Gas Gauge Crapped Out, is it gauge or sender?

Hey, I just filled up my tank today and the gas gauge crapped out. I heard a click and the gauge went to dead low and the lights began to flicker. Is it my gauge, or the sender? The gauge has been waivering and fluctuating for awhile now.
How hard is it to replace the sender? Need to drop the tank?
