brakes out--accumulator, pump, other?

replaced the brake accumulator (with the buick part) on my '91 900 cv a few weeks ago. brake lights going on intermittantly for a year, then the pedal began modulating when i hit the brakes. after the fix, worked perfectly. didn't drive it for a week, then today i noticed increased brake effort, and a "bouncy" (not spongy) feel to the pedal. brake lights were once again on. pump was pumping loudly, louder than usual. it isn't turning off. so what's going on? i'm hoping it isn't the pump. the brakes still work (the pedal isn't rock hard, i still have some assist), so i think the pump is at least working somewhat, but pressure isn't being stored. i turn the ignition on, the brake lights don't go out, the pump just runs. did i get a bad accumulator? is there any way to test? i never bled the brakes after the install (i'm going to do that before i do anything else), but i can't figure how that would all of a sudden cause a brake failure after working. any help on this one truly appreciated...
