What makes you think it's the Hall sensor? They don't fail terribly often... There is a test procedure for it, or you can just monitor something like the fuel injectors - if they start injecting while you crank the engine, your Hall sensor is probably okay...
I don't think the sensor itself is available as a spare part (though it is technically replaceable), which means replacing the whole distributor. That job is as easy as they get - one 13mm bolt holds the thing in place; remove the bolt & bracket, slide the distributor out. Just be sure you pay exceptionally close attention to the position of the rotor and the distributor housing, so when you put the new one back in, you can match up. If you don't do this, your timing will be very off, and you'll have committed yourself to some disassmbly. No matter how careful you are, however, you'll still wanna re-time the thing after putting it back together...
I would *personally* try and find a used distributor at a junkyard, in the classifieds, or on ebay. A parts place is gonna charge you hefty money for that! Since they don't often fail, I wouldn't hesitate about buying/installing a used one and saving some money. Just be sure you get one from an '89 or later turbo. Most '88s will work as well, but the Hall sensor connector changed in early '88, so not all will.
