fuel pressure regulator

My '93 900 runs badly when I start it after it has sat for several hours especially overnight. I notice a skip (without smoke) that lasts only a minute or so when the ambient temperature is in the 70s but for much longer in the winter months when the temperature is below freezing. Could this be related to the fuel pressure regulator? I've done all the obvious things such as plugs, distributor cap etc. Where should I look now?
