Oil pump cover removal - what's the trick??

All:
I'm trying to finish up my harmonic balancer swapout job on my 1992 900S CV.
I cannot seem to figure out how to remove the oil pump cover. I've found the edges of it, but it must won't budge and I don't want to damage it. It is NOT leaking, but I have the new o-ring and want to replace it while I'm in there.
So, what's the secret? Where do you pry and with what? (I've been using various size screwdrivers, but the drivers side seems particularly difficult to get at).
Thanks!
Todd inMA
