little while ago i asked if the differential cover (rear) had a gasket/ and or if puting gasket sealer on the bolts would stop a leak,
it was said the cover needs a new gasket and the bolts play no part in driping the oil from their own hole, now im in the mids of changing the gasket and wanted to make sure before i install the cover that there is really no need for sealent on the bolts?
thanks
one more thing, i found i need to replace all eight bolts becouse when the 12 mm socket was on them the bolt was like mushy metal and when the socket had a tight fit the head of the bolt just striped within the socket, it was as if the bolt heads were made out of putty, ended up having to use a 10" vice-grips (worked like a charm) so what i`m asking is why the bolt heads turn to mush..., the socket had a firm fit when the handle of the wrench was tryed to turn the bolt just mushed out, no sliping of the socket to strip the bolt, bolt was putty, how and why do snd did this hsppen?
however the cover is off and i have eight new bolts for the cover.... any-one know right off hand the torque for the bolts?
one last question when the cover was off i was cleaning it and saw traces of silicone on the edge of the cover where gasket meets the cover, do i need to put sealent on the gasket to cover?
thanks again i know i asked alot but i sure would like to know
