A screwdriver and a rag. The rag is the important part. Get a good bite with a small screwdriver so it doesn't chew the paint on the reverse side, then put the rag between the trunk/hatch and the handle of the screwdriver so the two DO NOT make contact, then gently pry. It works every time.
You'll probably be able to tell where the emblem was; this is a good time to clean off any wax residue around that hard-to-reach area with a paint-suitable cleaner or solvent, then reapply whatever wax you use after the new emblem is on. My '90 (that greyish-silver color, Rose Quartz) had some shadows under where the emblem was, but the cleaner solvent and a coat of wax pretty much took care of it.
