Assuming you're not doing the work yourself, you're more or less looking at a $2000 bill just to replace the transmission with a rebuilt. That may be low, but it's close. Once it's out, it's foolish not to do another ~$400 worth of work. So, if $2400 is not to your liking, I'd sell the car. Someone will probably give you $500 or more for it assuming it's in good cosmetic shape.
I personally would not worry about the two years worth of sitting, assuming you at the very least didn't park it in the middle of a field, or somewhere else it might rust. My own 1990 SPG sat for three years with no ill effects, and I've put cars back on the road that have sat for much, much longer.
