maybe...
sounds like you have something heat related, I know... duh...
Perhaps the switch itself, or a relay. when you attempt to start and no crank does it seem like you are getting any load on the battery? turn on the headlights to brights next time and try to start. if a load is happening (maybe the starter is having an issue?) then the lights should dim some. if they don't then it sounds like it's before the starter.
A trick I've used to test for components being heat sensitive (aka they are marginal or fail in the 100 degree weather we are having in SoCal right now!) is to get a can of the dust off air that you use to clean computers. Frys, Costco, CompUSA, and I suspect most office supply stores have it. Comes in a three or four pack plastic shrink wrap.
Anyway, if you turn the can upside down to spray you get a freeze blast, somewhat like a CO2 fire extenquisher. Pick the most likely suspect and give it a blast. Then try to start. If no start then pick the next likely suspect and continue until it starts.
We've used it a bunch of times to find heat related failures, solinoids, temp senders (on the intake manifold), ignition amplifiers, and even the contact inside the start switch.
