I'm in the middle of diagnosing something similar. Sometimes will cut out while driving. sometimes won't start when hot, after running around for ahwhile. it's been hotter than normal here, but not like the high desert. So I used a can of "AIR", stuff you use on computers and the like, turned it upside down which make a stream of cold come out. by process of elimination is seems that the temp sender, the one thru the intake manifold, is not happy (the one that has a plug in into blue plastic. One three occasions when it wouldn't start, but would crank, and I tested with carb cleaner into the intake plenum, no fire as no spark, after freezing the plug it started up. I'm restricting the car to around neighboorhood driving and waiting for two more episodes and then will change the temp sender.
this is one of the items in the bentley under cranks but won't start so I think (ok hope) I'm on the right track.
more later...
