I've had two types of car covers, on that was flat water repellent but was a little hard on the paint. one that is softer but allows water through it. last time I stored a parts car I used both types. soft one on the car top one the waterproof one. used bungy cords to keep them secure in all kinds of wind.
consider putting plugs into the exhaust pipe and the intake as well to keep critters from getting in. also some type of insect/spider stuff inside the car and trunk.
something to keep the pests making a mess or nest inside the engine compartment. some have had issues with insulation getting chewed off wires. consider de-con bait to keep them away.
put extra air in the tires, maybe upto 40psi, remember to change when you drive.
keep the windows closed. put a couple of boxes of arm and hammer baking soda inside the car, lay box on side and cut the side off. it will help keep the inside dryer.
