Two ground wires... did you do that or? Who put the new Alternator in? Is it a Bosch, reman, used or what condition? is the voltage regulator in it new, good brushes and all that?
there is a hot cable from the alternator to the starter, and from there one to the battery. is that connection nice and tight?
The saabs have that biodegradable insulation on most all of the wires. The hot cable from the battery traverses across the back (which is near the radiator) of the engine, right over the transmission. there are two or three clamps with rubber insulation in the clamp which wraps around the insulated hot cable. and this goes to the starter, and then to the alternator (as above). Suggest you do a very detailed inspection of that cable. maybe it's doing an intermitant short? that would freak out the alternator and the rest of the system. BTW - why did you renew the alternator? were the diodes in the VR blown? that would indicate a short to ground at sometime...
keep us posted on your findings, it helps keep the knowledge base up to date, and helps everyone.
