Alternator interference?

I just finished getting my 92 900S CV all back together from replacing the harmonic balancer, crank seal, oil pump o-ring with a detour on the shifter lock gear box.
Everything looks and seems to run great, but I'm getting a metal to metal noise intermittently. I took the AC belt off to see if the outer pulley on the crank pulley was loose, or possibly the AC tensioner pulley, but the sound is still there with AC drive belt removed.
I checked the waterpump pulley and the waterpump when I had everything apart - no excessive waterpump shaft play there.
It seems like the noise is coming from the fins on the alternator, while spinning, intermittently scraping on something underneath it, possibly the alternator bracket. It's not enough to stall the alternator spinning, but it does seem to be lightly touching something. All of the alternator mount bushings were replaced, as was the alternator, prior to the harmonic balancer work.
Any ideas how to correct this? The belts seem quite tight - and they're new.
