The auto trans on my daughter's 93 convertible is toasted, needs cluch pack work. To top things off, there is also a rod knock in the engine. Such a waste, Body is in decent shape, couple of scratches & dings, but there is almost NO rust on the car. For some strange reason, there is a small hole rusted under the driver floorboard, but no rust in all the usual places, top in decent condition. Time for thinking. Do I swap the motor & trans from my SPG, and put turbo power to the convertible? Do I sell the whole collection and get her a Honda? Is the convertible worth anything to a Saabophile with a bad engine & trans? Do I put in the spare NA engine & change to a 5 speed?
Bear in mind, this car will be driven by a 20 yr old girl. It has been my past experience, that cars that are GIVEN to young drivers are not appreciated or well cared-for. Even using myself as an example, I would beat the piss outta the car the old man gave me, put on crappy bumper stickers, leave it dirty. When I BOUGHT a car with my OWN money ( a 1970 4 door torino) it got the good tires, 3 coats of wax, vacuumed & cleaned every week, even though it was a piece of crap. Knowing that, what would you do in my situation?
