broken chain guide question

I took off for work this morning. It was kind of brisk. I noticed what I thought was exhast fog through my back window. The only problem was it was coming out the opposite side from the tailpipe. I stopped at the Duncan Donuts about 4 miles from my house because I was running late and didn't have time to make a pot at home. Good thing too, because when I stopped steam came blowing out from under the hood. I have a blown headgasket which was allowing coolant to escape. Fortunately it was an external failure. I limped home and started the arduous task of replacing the head gasket. I thought I'd save myself some trouble by leaving the exhaust manifold and turbo attached to the head. STUPID!!
When I was removing the head I broke a piece off the upper chain guide. About 1/2"- 5/8" snapped off the top. The area where the chain tensioner sits is still there and maybe 1/4"-3/8" above that. I was thinking of just cleaning up and shaping the broken area instead of replacing the whole guide. I don't relish the idea of disassembling the front of the engine to replace the whole thing. I'm looking for any opinion anone has on this before I go ahead and do it (or not).
As it is I had to replace the freeze plugs and the power steering pump because I found leaks in them while I had things apart.
