I believe there is supposed to be an o-ring in the fitting -- perhaps you have an extra one stuck in the port of the rack? I had a similar problem in aligning the fitting/port on the clutch master, and solved it by a slight bend to get the threads to properly engage. Large long screwdriver helped to push the fitting into the port, but be careful! Check your threads on the fitting to make sure the entry thread is not closed preventing the engagement. Good luck!
