shifter assembly screw on to the front of the housing - I remember looking in the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) for the shifter assembly for various years. IIRC, the part number for the shifter assembly housing is the the same for externally and internally centered transmissions. (I'm at work now, so I can't give you part numbers.)
It's probably a case of removing the centering spring assembly from an old shifter assembly and screwing on to your existing one. If you can, take lots of pictures before you take the centering spring assembly off the donor car.
