Check the following:
(I had this problem on my 1992 900S CV.)
There is a small oval canister on top of the fuel rail in the engine compartment. It is the fuel pressure regulator (FPR). If the diaphram inside ruptures, fuel escapes and drains thru the vacuum hose back into the air intake. You can check by pulling the vacuum line from the FPR with the engine off. If there's fuel dripping, replace the FPR. If no fuel dripping, the FPR is okay. Be careful that the engine isn't hot or that you have a small container to catch the gasoline if it's there.
If this isn't the problem, then check the gaskets at the top of the gas tank, where the fuel pump is mounted. Also check around the gas tank filler tube, at both ends and in between for any leaks, cracks, etc.
Let us know what you find...
