I have an 84 900T, and just today when I took it on the highway I heard a whistle when making boost at about 65 and above. This of course scared me shitless because, though this is my first Saab or turbo, I have read enough to know this generally means the turbo bearings are on their way out. However, it seems to only happen in 5th gear, which perplexes me because I assume the compressor velocity is a function only of engine speed and not actual car speed. Also, I had gassed up before I drove and noticed when I got home that I had left the gas cap off. I convinced myself that the noise was somehow connected to this (ie, pressure escaping from the tank under throttle) but I assume this is wishful thinking.
