Birker,
Recently the crush sleeve for the later transaxles were still available but the crush sleeve for the early ones is not. So if your gearbox has pinion bearings of two different sizes (a later gearbox) then you can get the sleeve (try Saab or thesaabsite.com). Alternatively you can actually re-use it if you carefully stretch it back out by tapping around it with a hammer as it sits on a shaft (you can use the pinion shaft if you are careful). Seems they work OK even after being resized this way (at least once). See how the bronze synchromesh rings sit in the sliders. As they wear they sit lower and eventually fail to engage. I don't have a dimension but they should sit almost flush. Compare all four and you'll know if there is a bad one. Rarely are all 4 bad. Fifth gear, same principle applies. Take a hard look at the upper chainwheel bearing and the aluminum arbor on which it sits. Like Swedecar said, the 1-2 forks are usually very worn where they contact the slider. 3-4 forks don't seem to wear much. Good luck.
