Thanks - I cannot find any water in the oil or vice versa and the car runs well...so I agree it doesn't sound like head gasket issues. I'll perhaps get a second opinion as there is some water loss though that could be the water pump or seal I did see a small amount of oil seepage around the valve cover gasket, I think your first guess that this is the cause is the likely culpret...I think I'll also try the other local Saab mechanic in future. Some of the mechanics where I had been going are probably excellent, but my wife tells me the guy who looked at our car the last two times looked about 17 years old and didn't know how to shut off the factory alarm or operate the roof.
