Stick with the black. You can pick up a good used one for about $10.
Or...
I redid the glovebox on my last car. The blisters show up because there are little dimples cast into the face of the glovebox. The glue on the back of the facing obviously can't stick to a dimple. Air is trapped in there and expands when it is super-heated from the sun causing the blister.
I soaked my glovebox lid in very hot (almost boiling) water to losten up the glue. Then I carefully peeled the facing off. I used wd-40 to remove the old glue from both surfaces. I sandwiched the facing material between a stack of books for a couple days to get it flat again. I filled the dimples on the glovebox door with bondo and sanded the door smooth. Then I coated both the door and the back of the facing with contact cement and stuck them back together. I punctured the blisters with a VERY FINE needle and made sure to press them down firmly. Two years later I have yet to see a blister.
