HARD CORNERING!!!
Do a simple test: run the car until that light comes on and stays on in normal driving over a level, even surface, and refuel. The light is supposed to come on and stay on with 1.8 to 2.0 gallons remaining. Your car has an 18 gallon fuel tank. Do the math. I've found the senders on four 900s to be very reliable, assuming you use them regularly. The eighteen-year-old unit in my '88 will tick around sometimes, showing that the contacts are a little dirty, but it used to do it a lot more when this was my mom's car (you know, 100k ago...) and she would never run the tank down past half.
On my '88, the light will flicker for 10-20 miles, 10 on the highway at steady state and 20 on winding back-roads. On my '92 the light does not flicker and flash as much.
On the '88, I give the car around 50-65 miles after the light stays on before things get interesting. On the '92 with the 18 gallon tank, that figure is closer to 60-75.
