welcome to the family!
If you are talking about the model/variant of the car, and not a racing class, then you most likely have just a straight 900 without any letter behind it.
There are several letter designations, T for turbo, S for an upgraded version between the base model (yours) and the T, an SE one year, an SIS one year, and of course everyones favorite the SPG (special performance group).
The S usually had an upgraded interior and included power windows and mirrors, the contour style seats, a sunroof (optional power until later years always power) and the option of leather (I think standard in later years), a better stereo too, and aluminum wheels. Mostly the same equipment in later years (1987 and later) as the turbo of the same year.
The T had all of the above, included a turbo charger for more uumph.
The convertible could be had in an S or T
The three in a base model, S, or T or 8 valve
The four door in a base model, S, or T or 8 valve
All above could be either a 5 speed manual or a 3 speed auto.
The SPG three door, special body panels, and a T hp or higher
All ones I described above are the 16valve engines. There was also an 8valve engine, turbo or n/a (normally aspirated aka non turbo) in a three or four door. the 1985T was a 16v (first year!), the 1986T or S a 16 valve, the 1987 T or S was a 16 valve, 1988 T or S a 16 valve, and I believe by 1989 all variants were 16 valve.
again, welcome!
