I first bled all the air out and the clutch worked great for two days. I swapped the master with a known good one and it was great for another two days. Pulled the clutch cover off and that's when I found a leaking slave cylinder. I rebuilt that and it was great for 4 months. Tonight I tried to bleed the system and could only get about 1/4" travel from the slave which was equal to the last 1/4 of the clutch pedal travel. I rebuilt the original master cylinder and removed the one in the car. The one in the car was troubleshot and the piston would not extend all the way to the snap ring. It had about 1/2" more to go...what was wrong? I opened it up and it turned out the spring inside broke and would not retract the piston enough to get a new gulp of brake fluid. The brake fluid supply hole in the master body was never reached. I put in the newly rebuilt master and it took a while, but I finally got all the air out and it is now moving the slave about 5/8" and there is no free play in the clutch pedal.
