I have had excellent luck using 3 big nuts (like from the tie rods, or the pass. side motor mount), the pry bar / lug tool from the trunk, part of the hood release cable, and a pair of slip-joint pliers (like the orange ones from the trunk...). Yes, I spend an inordinate amount of time in the junkyard.
Unbolt the pressure plate, and lever it using the lug tool against the flywheel. Pry it far enough away to insert one of the nuts between the plate and the flywheel. Do this in two more spots, evenly placed. Sometimes you can get away with two 180 degrees off from each other, but three is easy enough and safer. Insert some of the hood release cable as if was the spacer tool, using the slip-joint pliers to force it into the pressure plate as deeply as possible. When you're done, the nuts will just fall out, and you can easily remove clutch parts. Whole operation takes maybe 30 minutes, and IMHO works better than the factory stuff. There is some risk of damaging the clutch slave cylinder, I imagine, but I've never suffered that problem.
