Didn't the Stag have the V8 derivative of the F85 aluminum block 215 ci engine? If so, that would be a terrific installation in a C900 as the crank was the heaviest part of the engine! We put an aluminum F85 V8 in a Sunbeam Alpine, and it destroyed the Sunbeam Tiger in the straights but really overtook it in the corners -- the boat anchor Ford V8 was so heavy they moved it aft, and had to use a rack & pinion steering, but it still plowed like a John Deere. Our F85 powerplant weighed in at the same as the 1.6L 4 cyl so we did not have to move it aft for weight distribution. I believe that Buick sold the aluminum 215 V8 to Rover, and they used it for years in their cars.
