It always amuses me when someone have used the wrong washer on certain drain plugs. It shows that they are not up to speed with Saabs.
Up to 1990, Saab used drain plug 8711871 which takes the copper washer 8718439.
From 91 to 93 they used 8731762 drain plug that takes the 8728057 washer which is what you have on the picture.
You can easily see the difference between the two plugs in that the earlier style have a slight concave shape to the surface that hits the washer thus digging into the copper material.
The newer style plug have a much bigger flange that will seal against the rubber lip on the newer washer.
When you place the new washer on the old style plug, the rubber lip is actually showing outside the flange since that plug is much smaller.
The old plug is no longer available from Saab but other sources might have it.
