Re: inner driver? need some axle wizards Posted by CMyles [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: inner driver? need some axle wizards, vvack0matic ![]() |
vvack,
That sure sounds like classic "inner driver knock". Keep in mind that a perfect inner driver will knock if the tripod bearing is bad. Personally I always replace the tripod bearing whenever I replace an inner driver. Can't imagine how a little misalignment would effect the symptoms of a bad inner driver (or tripod bearing). I suppose that huge misalignment might skew the symptoms of a worn or dry/dirty OUTER CV, but it sounds like your alignment is at least pretty close. What aspect of the alignment has been changed, the caster, camber or toe and does (did) the car actually pull to one side while cruising or was the steering wheel merely off center? Determining left/right origin of a chassis noise is sometimes tricky and your perception will often change depending on where you sit when the car is being driven, so perhaps this knocking is actually coming from the driver's side. What is the condition of the driver's side inner driver and tripod bearing? Is there any of the "knocks while rounding corners" effect typical of outer CV's? Where can I get a really "good" cup of coffee?
