91900S,
Up here (San Juan Mountains, SW Colorado) We deal with a lot of snow for about 5-6 months each year. We just got 6" of snow in town (9318 feet El.) on September 22nd (mostly gone now). I keep 4 M/S tires made by Dayton under the label "Winterforce" on my 900 turbo(s)all year. I put 185/65s (instead of 195) on my most driven car and, it's hard to say for sure, but I think that it was a little more sure-footed. I think that hard rubber compounds are not advisable but most importantly..lots of "sipes". Those are the small slits going across the tire. "Lugged" tires are for mud and very poor on snow or ice. I don't use studded tires either (of course I drive on them all year). On a snow packed dirt road I'll put my 900 up against any 4WD car. Cheers.
