getting new clutch, but worried about gearbox problems.

So, I am getting a new clutch installed in the next few days, but I finally took the baby out of the garage today for a little spin to test out some stuff and found that it is almost impossible to get into 4th gear. Earlier on in the work I did, it would grind a lot getting into 4th, which I found out is probably a gearbox problem. But, when I drove it today, it almost felt like there was something blocking the shifter from getting into 4th. When I bought the car, the shifter was crap with all kinds of broken parts, so I replaced it (due mainly to the fact that it wouldn't shift into reverse at all) and when I did that, I gained reverse and lost 4th (seem to remember 4th being fine when I got it, but I haven't driven it much in the month I have had it). I am just wondering if anyone has had this problem and if so, hoping they will tell me it is a much cheaper fix than replacing the gearbox (got a quote for 1300 bucks to do that). If I need to do that, I might end up selling the car, but would HATE to do that. I bought it for 500 and am putting another 500 for a clutch, so to more than double that to get a new gearbox is kinda silly...and very expensive for a broke ass guy like myself. Anyone have any ideas?
