look in the fuse box Posted by vvack0matic [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Lost both the Rear Defroster and Reverse-lights at Once, Jesse and his Champ, Wed, 4 Oct 2006 09:08:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
had a problem with the defroster
however the light on mine would only stay on if the button was held in
once the button was released the light would go out,
i just chalked it up as one more thing that is wrong with my ride.
after i was messing with my headlight relay in the fuse box i came across the defroster fuse, found it was making a sorry contact with one of the wires in the fuse box,(wire under the fuse)
after some cleaning and rewiring the defroster works like new.
only thing i can think that could of happened to your reverse lights is perhaps the reverse light fuse or wires are or did cross with the defroster fuse/wires (plastic shroud on the wire melted off), in any case pull the cap off the fuse box, then pull the two bolts that hold the cap of the fuses to the box lift gently and look under at all the wires running to the fuses
(lifting the fuse cap with wires attached to the bottom will only give a inch of room to play with) little note, if you take a look at your wires that run to your headlight relay, one, if not all will be burnt,(plastic shroud brown/black, and wire unbend able. thats what were looking for on the defroster and reverse light fuse wires.)
find where the defrost and reverse light wires are, look to see if there charred brown/black (outside plastic shroud)
if they look to be in decent shape, try a bend test, (the outside of the wire plastic may be fine, however the inside wire may be fried, if it is by simply bending the wire right where the fuse would hook in , if its unbend-able snip the end and make a new hook up for the fuse (with crimps) don't use electrical tape in this area,
if it bends no problem it may just be a dirty contact from fuse to wire with one or both fuses.
