There was a good junkyard 45 minutes north of where I live that I used to go to about twice a month back when I first got into Saabs. It had a load of 900s, 9000s a couple of 99s as well as a raft of old Mercedes, BMWs, 5 cylinder Audis, VW's etc. I loved going there and taking in the stories that the cars told - the stickers, permits and assorted debris of the owners told the story of the car's role in its family, giving it a character, unlike say, a dishwasher which is usually just an object. Maybe I'm just a sap, but I always treated the cars with respect when taking parts, no destroying 10 parts to free 1; my mindset was disassembly, not dismantling. Anyways, a few weeks went by and I had a wish list as long as my arm, so my Dad and I took the ride up to Ballston Lake only to be greeted by a dusty, oily field and the news that the cars were crushed. At first, I was pissed that I wasted all that time and wouldn't be getting any parts and especially that all those good remaining parts were wasted. As I rode back to Albany, I realized that I sort of missed the cars, and was bummed that the particular experience of junkyarding there had come and gone.
