I changed my trans fluid by having the differential cover removed so the box could be throughly drained. Had the cover seal replaced, and the cover cleaned -- it has a filter screen and a magnet integrated into it. There are lots of opinions of what kind of oil to use -- I used a brand name 10W-30 oil. Some have reported that they put in a synthetic oil and leaks developed, so I would stick with the standard stuff. If the oil is hideous, then I would have it drained again after a few weeks of driving. Then keep an eye on the level of oil and keep it full. Once it starts to leak badly, then address the seals. Perhaps the differential cover seal replacement will correct the problem. There is no drain plug on your trans, so the diff cover must come off anyway, so make sure you have an OEM gasket -- about $12 from Saab.
