i would tend to lean on spark-plugs
reason being is when backing the car up little gas is used so as the weak or corroded plugs can fire
when reving the car (might i add not good on a cold motor)
little gas is used as it would be the same as backing up
(notice the turbo tack., you can see how little it takes to rev. the motor)
but when driving forward gas is flooded into the chambers (again notice the turbo tack.) for a long period of time to get the car up to speed.
on spent, or corroded plugs it is almost unachieveable.
the reason the car will run when warm is after the plugs warm up they can fire the fuel seeing the piston chambers are also warm which helps the matter of combustion, and the corrosion on the plug has turned to a form of... how shall we say .... melted metal
in any case changing the plugs should help in the matter of your car not going forward. now if the plugs have been changed prior to your post
that little bit of info would help in determining plugs are not the case here, in actuality any thing done to the car prior to your post to solve your problem can help or go a long way in pin pointing the cause.
if any other info may it be, service records, last oil change, last tune up, if the car is burning oil, if it over heated badly, any major event that may have happened prior to the car performing poorly can be the difference from solving the problem or not.
but with the post as it stands i would point to the plugs.
