86 900S--I'm due for a valve cover gasket(leaking) and in searching posts, wonder if some of the intermittant rattle/ticking I hear while at idle is tapping of the lifters because the oilers have hardened and leak. I don't think the noise is the chain tensioner(replaced at 60Kmi.)

so I have 2-3 questions- Before opening up the cover.... how do I know which VC gasket I need- the skinny or the thicker, and can I tell before I pull the cover if I have a model that uses those overhead oilers (so I buy the replacement kit) and after 210K miles should I consider replacing the valve stem seals(also buy them in advance)???Are the VSS easily accessible once I pull the VC and what is the approach/how difficult are they to pop out and replace.
