Brake Light Riddle (long)

Hello,
Brake Ligth failure.
1991 900 convertible
All brake lights stopped working. Checked fuse, it was blown. Replaced and the new fuse blew when I stepped on the pedal. Assumed a short.
Went to the rear and poked around, looking for lose wires, etc. Found nothing. In desperation, I removed the tailight assembly. Passenger Brake Light was grey and did not function. The two contact electrodes on the bottom had corroded out. Replaced light, new fuse and the lights worked.
Several days later, lights fail again. Here's what I looked at:
1)Fuse was OK!
2) Both rear lights are in perfect condition. Replaced bulbs again for kicks.
3)Changed fuse with new spare
4)No change in status. Fuse remains good.
Any ideas? I wanted to take my car out on a date (convertible in Florida is great this time of year). I'm afraid the Saab might be jealous :-)
Many Thanks,
Lee
