you won't believe this but....
we've been working on one of the 900's and haven't put the key in the ignition for a month. several months ago my son had spilled one of those 44 oz sodas in the car, he was upset at himself before he got him, so all I could do was help him clean it out/up. He got to learn about the window lift switches and other items too. We did put WD-40 in the ignition switch to flush it... Car was driven for a couple of months, every other day or so, local stuff. All was well...
Until we left the car for a month without turning the ignition key, we were working on various items in the car and it was a low priority job. (I've got spare cars...).
So, the key won't turn. would not even make the buzzer (key in switch and door open) go on. We started the car with clutch pushed in via the remote starter to check out the work, it was all fine.
So, against my better judgement, we tried the "boiling water" manuver (I had never had a key this gummed up...). No Dice. We did the WD-40, no dice. We did Electrical contact cleaner, no dice. We opened up the area to get right down to it, cleaned, picked, brushed, sprayed some more, more boiling water, did a rain dance... no dice. So we put it away for the night.
This morning the key grudging turned. Then was better, then even better, then you'd never know we had an issue...
that's my story and I'm sticking to it...
