Alignment question - just replaced tie rod end

My 92 900S CV needed a new outer tie rod end which I replaced Saturday night. Now the steering wheel, in order to drive straight is off-center - if I put it in the centered position while driving, the car drifts right.
I measured the tie rod length as specified in the Bentley manual and both sides measure about the same (4-5/8" or so).
Seems like the right side needs to be lengthened somewhat.
What could be the problem? Could it be the left side outer tie-rod end should also be replaced? It was replaced about 3 years ago.
What's the best check for out tie-rod end wear, to tell if it needs replacing? The one on the right side (which I replaced had a lot of play in it, and could easily be twisted by hand.
Thanks for assistance and inputs on this.
