Are you sure its the valves/lifters? Does it go away when you begin driving and get the revs up to 2500+? If it gets louder with acceleration under load (where theoretically it should go away) then it may be the bearings in your water pump are giving it up. I had a similar noise and it was the water pump.
If the noise drops off when you have the engine at fuyll revs (and have very good oil pressure, then, yeah, its probably the valves/lifters. Some folks swear by Marvel Mystery Oil, SeaFoam, or simply a quart of autmatic transmission fluid for 500 to a 1,00 miles to clean out accumulated sludge tha may be blocking your oil passages. I have chronic lifter noise on my truck (Isuzu Trooper) and these additives help a little -- but it never goes away entirely.
