Make sure you pull the fuse for the fuel pump before you crank over the engine. Otherwise, the injectors will fire fuel into the cylinders and wash them down -- exactly the opposite of what you want. The suggestion of oil down the plug holes is a strong suggestion in my book. If the coolant was out of the block, then don't put in a new pump until later -- the rust scale will fall off, go through the system and kill the pump. Don't open the heater valve! Don't want that junk in your heater core. If you were lucky and the coolant was still in the engine, a good flushing would be at the top of the list. I would MMO (Marvelous Mystery Oil) the lube system, and have several oil filters on hand. Make sure your PCV is renewed so you don't blow out the crank seals -- they are probably dry in spots. If you have the valve cover off, there is a bleeding bolt for the upper oiling system, so bleeding that would be a great thing to do as well. Only takes a few cranks to get oil up to the top of the engine -- if there is an air block up there, your lifters will raise hell. The more you do to ease the engine back to life, the better! Wake it up as slow as you can...........
