Put one of your spare clusters face down on a table, take out the 8 screws, one at each corner of each of the side gage groups, and they lift off, entire with the flexy printed circuit board that links them. Set them aside and lift speedo off and you have your replacement for the cracked plastic. You probly ought to wait till you have the original cluster out of the car and do the transfer at same time, but if you want to see what's in store, it's easy to pre-try this, then reassemble till D-day.
Printed circuit stays right in place on the gauges the whole time, the gage panels lift off nice and easy, and it's hard to see how you could use enough force to do any damage to the printed circuit. A little hump strip of it bridges across above the speedometer, and just needs to be lifted up a little off two tiny black plastic pegs on the top of the speedo.
